At the very end of a year we often take the count of things that happened or were accomplished during the year. One notable event from that list we will describe here. Namely, on October 15, 2022, a table tennis tournament organized by the Table Tennis Organizing Committee took place in the hall of our parish church. The idea for that tournament was born when Dr. Jelena Vojčić donated a tennis table to our church. Her wish was that this gift should not remain covered with dust in some corner, but that it should serve its purpose.
Consequently, four female and twenty-two male competitors took part in the tournament, including one guest from Hamilton, ON (Srđan Kundak). The most credit for holding the tournament belongs to Branimir Kević, once an active player at the time when very good table tennis was played in Yugoslavia. Branimir was involved in the sports part of this, as it later turned out, a very successful event.
At the end of that first tournament, the standings were as follows:
Women’s competition:
1. Sladjana Šekara
2. Ana Janković
3. Capusid Klutier
4. Danijela Nakovski
Male competition:
1. Branimir Kević
2. Milan Ćuk
3. Slaven Nikčević
4. Ranko Kević
In addition to the competition held on the Dr Vojcic-donated table, the other matches were held on the other two tables, donated by the families Stojanovic and Cuk-Petrovic. As per these families’ wishes, those tables would ideally be used in future events like this one.
Players and visitors could refresh themselves with food prepared by the hard-working sister Anđelka Blagojević.
The organizing committee warmly thanks everyone who took part in the competition and organizational part of the tournament.
